Saved places and device watches
Your saved locations, unit and outdoor-plan preferences, and device-only weather watches are stored in this browser. Watches do not create an account, send notifications or run while the browser is closed.
Location access
Location access starts only when you select “Use my location” and grant your browser's permission. Coordinates are sent to WeatherView to fetch the forecast. The browser also sends them to BigDataCloud to find the place name; that service receives your IP address with the request.
Radar maps
Radar tiles are requested directly from Environment Canada’s GeoMet service or RainViewer. Website map tiles come from OpenStreetMap; native maps use Apple Maps. These services receive your IP address and the map area you view when supplying the imagery.
Website measurement
We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand visits and use of features such as forecast tabs, saving a place, opening sharing saving a device watch, choosing plan preferences, viewing planning results, downloading a calendar plan and completing a share. These events do not include your coordinates, search text, saved place name or watch contents. Query parameters and fragments are removed from page URLs before measurement.
Vercel Web Analytics does not use analytics cookies. Its documentation explains the request information it processes and how it counts visitors. Hosting and weather providers also process requests needed to serve the site. The embedded weather widget does not load our analytics module.
Calendar plans
“Add to calendar” downloads a calendar file containing your chosen activity, city name, suggested time and forecast reasons. WeatherView does not read your calendar or save the event automatically. Review the file in your calendar app before saving it.
WeatherView for iPhone and iPad
The native app stores saved cities, preferences and the last forecast on your device. Searching sends the entered city or region to WeatherView's geocoding service. Search results are cached on our server for up to 24 hours by search term, without an account or device identifier. Forecast and planning requests send the selected city's coordinates to WeatherView and its weather providers. The native app does not request GPS permission, create accounts or use our web analytics module. Hosting and providers process the network requests needed to supply data.
Native radar uses Apple Maps with Environment Canada or RainViewer imagery. Apple's calendar editor opens only when you choose a suggestion; you decide whether to save the event. WeatherView cannot read your existing calendar events. A shared forecast includes the chosen city and its coordinates.
Managing local data
Remove saved locations with their × button, stop a watch in its dialog, or clear this site's data in your browser settings. Clearing site data also removes cached forecasts and preferences.
